Introduction
These Visitor Terms & Conditions, Rules & Regulations and Privacy Policy are established to ensure the safety, comfort and enjoyment of all visitors, staff and collections at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
By entering the GEM premises, purchasing or using a ticket, visitors agree to comply with all terms, rules and policies outlined below, as well as any additional instructions issued by GEM staff.
General Policies
- Outside food and beverages are not permitted on the premises.
- The consumption of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.
- Smoking is prohibited throughout the museum, except in designated outdoor areas.
- Visitors must behave respectfully at all times. Disorderly, aggressive or offensive behaviour, including loud or abusive language, will not be tolerated.
- Appropriate attire is required at all times.
- Visitors may not remove their shoes, lie down on benches or floors, or engage in behaviour inconsistent with the dignity of the museum environment.
- Visitors must not litter, damage or deface any part of the museum’s buildings, furniture or landscaping.
- All posted signage and instructions issued by GEM staff must be followed.
- Visitors consent to being photographed or filmed during their visit. GEM reserves the right to use such images and recordings for marketing and promotional purposes.
Prohibited Items and Security Procedures
To ensure safety and protect the collections, the following items are not permitted inside the GEM:
- Large bags, backpacks, luggage or parcels exceeding 40 × 40 cm. These must be stored in designated cloakroom or storage areas.
- Weapons, sharp objects or hazardous materials, including knives, scissors, firearms and tools.
- Musical instruments.
- Animals or pets.
- Advertising banners, placards or signs, unless expressly approved by GEM management.
- Folding seats or personal seating, unless permission has been granted by GEM security.
- Umbrellas and similar items, which must be left in designated areas.
All bags and personal belongings may be subject to inspection by GEM security at any time.
Gallery Conduct
While inside the galleries, visitors are required to observe the following:
- Do not touch artefacts, displays or showcases.
- Food and drinks are not permitted inside galleries, except for small water bottles.
- Flashlights, laser pointers and flash photography are prohibited.
- Live streaming and the use of audio devices are not permitted.
- Visitors are asked to speak quietly and avoid obstructing pathways or other visitors’ views.
Families with Children
- Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times while inside the GEM.
- Running, rough play, or any activity that may cause disturbance, injury, or damage to exhibits is strictly prohibited.
Photography, Videography and Filming
- Personal, non-commercial photography and videography are permitted using mobile devices and cameras, subject to gallery-specific restrictions.
- The use of tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, drones, external lighting and live-streaming equipment is prohibited.
- Flash photography is not permitted.
- Visitors should refrain from photographing other visitors or GEM staff without their consent.
- Commercial photography or videography, including for television, cinema, advertising or documentary purposes, requires prior written approval from GEM and payment of applicable fees.
- In restricted areas, only mobile photography may be permitted.
Sketching Regulations
Visitors wishing to sketch inside the galleries must comply with the following:
- Only pencils may be used. Pens and markers are prohibited.
- Sketchbooks must not exceed 45 × 60 cm (18 × 24 inches).
- Sketching must not obstruct visitor flow or disrupt other guests.
- Care must be taken to avoid contact with artefacts or display cases.
Emergencies and Safety Procedures
- In the event of an emergency, visitors must follow all instructions issued by GEM staff immediately.
- In the event of an earthquake, visitors should move away from large sculptures, display cases and unsecured objects.
- In the event of fire or other emergencies, visitors must follow designated evacuation routes and await staff guidance.
Disclaimer of Liability
- GEM is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal belongings.
- Visitors enter the premises and participate in activities at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety and conduct.
Ticketing Terms & Conditions
- Tickets are non-refundable after purchase, regardless of the sales channel used (online platform, self-service machines or on-site ticket counters), except in cases of force majeure as determined by GEM.
- Tickets are valid only for the date and time specified. Failure to use a ticket within its validity period does not entitle the visitor to a refund or exchange.
- Each ticket permits single entry only. Re-entry is not permitted once a visitor exits the premises.
- Tickets are non-transferable and may only be used by the individual whose name is associated with the booking.
- Visitors are responsible for attending within official operating hours.
- GEM reserves the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule events, tours or experiences at its discretion. In such cases, ticket holders may be offered a voucher for a future visit or guided tour.
- GEM reserves the right to refuse entry to, or remove from the premises, any visitor who fails to comply with these terms and regulations, without entitlement to a refund.
